Nepalian Police Arrested 122 Chinese Nationals in ATM Fraud

Nepal police have detained 122 Chinese nationals on a tourist visa accused of being involved in cybercrime. According to Kathmandu Police Chief Otum Sabedi, there were reports that Chinese people were involved in suspicious activities. All these Chinese were under the observation of Nepali police. So the Police arrested them after getting evidence against them.


After that, the raids were carried out for their arrest. During the operation, 122 Chinese nationals, including women, were arrested. According to the police chief, who was involved in the hacking of cash machines of banks. All these Chinese are kept in different Police stations. While their laptops and passports are in the custody of Nepali Police.


Utam Sabedi adds "This is the first time that a large number of foreigners involved in criminal activities have been arrested,". Chinese Embassy is aware of the arrest of suspects. The Embassy in Nepal did not immediately respond to the arrest of Chinese nationals. Although senior police officer Hobandara Bogati claimed that the Chinese embassy is aware of the arrest of the suspects.

Chinese Embassy has also supported this act of arresting Chinese Nationals in this criminal activity. This is not the first case of Chinese nationals being involved in ATM fraud. In the previous week, 342 Chinese nationals were arrested by the Nepalian Police.


While In September, Nepal police arrested five Chinese nationals for allegedly hacking banks' ATM machines and for allegedly trying to withdraw money. Pakistan Police has also arrested the Chinese nationals in ATM machines theft cases in Pakistan. A few months back, there were reports of cybercrime activities led by Chinese nationals in Pakistan.


According to Nepal Tourism Department data, more than 134,000 Chinese tourists visited Nepal from January to October this year. Remember that during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Nepal in October this year, an agreement was signed between the two countries to exchange citizens involved in crimes.


China is investing heavily in Nepal and in recent years has invested heavily in Nepal in the energy and health sectors besides roads.


Pakistan and China have long term friendship relations which are based on two ways trade and other bilateral relations. Pakistan and China are also working on the Biggest Project of CPEC together. This project is a great effort of both country's development in trade.
